7.11. The Postmortem

We made considerable progress. Amazing, really. We went from having a single monolithic application to a fully modularized architecture with considerable flexibility. But, we haven’t yet talked about many of the interesting takeaways. Many positive side effects have resulted that aren’t immediately obvious. In this section, we really look at the impact of modularity.

Through this series of refactorings, we made considerable progress in modularizing the application using a few of the modularity patterns. In fact, the modularity patterns we applied throughout this example include the following:

• Physical Layers

• Abstract Modules

• Acyclic Relationships

• Separate Abstractions

• Colocate Exceptions

• Independent Deployment
