The Server.xml File

In this appendix, we discuss the configuration of Tomcat containers and connectors in the server.xml configuration. This file is located in the CATALINA_HOME/conf directory and can be considered the heart of Tomcat. It allows you to completely configure Tomcat using XML configuration elements. Tomcat loads the configuration from server.xml file at startup, and any changes to this file require server restart. However, you can configure Tomcat is such way that it allows runtime changes to the deployed web applications.
