The marketing folks want users to fill in all of the boxes on the form, but only a few pieces of data are truly necessary to generate a lead (see Figure 4-1). Generally, you should stick with the name and e-mail address as required entries. Avoid requiring a phone number unless it's absolutely necessary—people will assume you're going to sic a telemarketer on them and they may enter in the phone number of their ex-significant other instead.
