Microsoft ASP.NET MVC (model/view/controller) is a relatively new Web application framework that combines ASP.NET's power and ease of use with the stability and testability of a MVC framework. The much-anticipated version 2 release brings new capabilities to the framework along with numerous additions that enhance developer productivity. In ASP.NET MVC 2 in Action, readers learn how to move from web form-based development to designs based on the MVC pattern. It begins with an introduction to the MVC framework and quickly dives into a working MVC 2 project. Featuring full coverage of new version 2 features, this book helps readers use developer-oriented upgrades like "Areas" to break a large project into smaller pieces and explore the new data handling tools. This revised edition adds a completely new tutorial to bring developers with no prior exposure to the MVC pattern up to speed quickly, keeping its focus on providing high-quality, professional grade examples that go deeper than the other ASP.NET MVC books.

I enjoyed this book very much, because it made a good transition from the traditional Web Forms approach. It is based on MVC 2, so it uses uses the Web Forms views instead of Razor, which meant I could concentrate on learning the new patterns instead of having to wade through an unfamiliar HTML syntax at the same time.
It assumes a good grounding in ASP.Net, but did not assume I knew a lot about things like Dependency Injection or routing. Instead it explained routing and the work done by each part of the MVC framework in a way that built naturally on my prior knowledge.
Many MVC books get sidetracked in the early chapters talking about unit testing, third-party tools for DI and the like, and that is a distraction this author avoids. The discussions of testing are just enough. The writing is clear, conversational and shows both a knowledge of the subject and respect for the reader.
In all this book strikes a good balance in pace and content, and I would recommend it as a first introduction to MVC before getting into some of the other books from Wrox and Apress that are deeper dives.
Well done, Mr. Palermo.

This is the first book I read on MVC and kinda liked it. Few of the chapters were not relevant or hard to digest for the first timers like me. But overall, good book to quickly learn and jump onto the development.
