Debugging Apps That Rely on the Pictures Hub

Debugging Apps That Rely on the Pictures Hub The Windows Phone 7.5 emulator does not include access to the Pictures Hub on the device. Therefore, if you do not have a device, you may find working through certain parts of this chapter difficult. While it is possible to unlock the Windows Phone emulator to allow access to various hubs, including the Pictures Hub, using it for phone development is not recommended as it takes substantially longer to boot, and it is not supported by Microsoft. Debugging an app that relies on the Windows Phone Pictures Hub is awkward and in most cases does not work. A workaround for this, which uses an image resource during development, is presented later in the chapter. If you have a device on hand and you want to test an app that uses the Pictures Hub, follow these steps. 1. Tether your phone to your computer and wait for it to be recognized by the Zune software. 2. Make sure that the solution is set to deploy to the Windows Phone Device. 3. Select Debug from the menu, and select Start Debugging. 4. When the application is visible, go back to the Debug menu and select Stop Debugging. 5. Disconnect the device from your computer, navigate to the Windows Phone application list, and locate your application.
