Windows Phone applications have no mechanism to directly synchronize information with other devices. If data is not included with the application download or the application needs to update data after it has been installed, the source of that data must be available “in the cloud”; otherwise, the application will have only static, nonchanging data. These “cloud” services, which could be anything from web services on public Internet hosts to services hosted in Windows Azure, provide a way for your application to send and receive data and are central to interactive or line-of-business applications.
