131 CHAPTER 5 Attitudinal and personality questionnaires T his chapter comprises two sorts of practice questions. The first are typical personality questions: they are short statements and you have to say if you agree with them or not. Some people mistakenly believe that you cannot improve your performance in this style of assignment: they rush them and do not give the statements sufficient consideration. It is essential that you answer the questions truthfully but it is equally essential that you keep at the front of your mind the context of the question. You are applying for a position of employment or training so with each question ask yourself, `As an applicant how would I respond in that situation?' Take for example the statement: `I would describe myself as tactful.' You should be able to answer this question positively. You might be able to think up some situation when you would not describe yourself as tactful, perhaps when out with your friends or at home with your family. But this would be the totally wrong response in the context of the ques- tion. How you sometimes act with your friends or family is irrelevant
