The future possibilities of social data have a lot to do with the preferences of the handful of people who control the biggest social networks. If Google, Facebook, and Twitter—leaving aside all of the smaller companies collecting valuable data—decided to share all their data, we the consumers would be exposed to all the possibilities of social data much quicker. But there is currently an attitude of extreme competition between the three major companies playing in the social space, and none of them want to relent.
