8. Informing Your Public: The Informatio... > Human-Edited Social Search

Human-Edited Social Search

If you perform a search on a country or event, in all likelihood, the search engine will provide you with a result pointing to one of two social sites: Wikipedia or Mahalo. Both of these sites are highly respected—though Wikipeida is a much higher authority—and as such, search engine algorithms place heavy emphasis on them.

Both Wikipedia and Mahalo are human-edited, which means that any user or site contributor can make changes and updates to them. There are thousands of articles on both sites, and new articles are being added daily. Both sites typically strive for accuracy, and those heavily invested on the sites often track any changes made to pages of topics they feel passionately about. Doing so helps ensure factual results.
