5. Using Blogs to Communicate, Influence... > What to Do If Your Corporate Policy ...

What to Do If Your Corporate Policy Disallows Blogging

In some corporate environments, legal red tape will prohibit you from engaging in a blog conversation on behalf of your company, or even from starting your own corporate blog. In fact, while blogs are great communication and customer loyalty tools, not every company will benefit from having one. In these instances, alternative methods are available to raise awareness through others’ blogs and through the online community.

Get Other Bloggers to Talk About You

A proven tactic time and time again is not to start your own blog, but to get other bloggers who may have a loyal community of readers and listeners to talk about you. Finding these bloggers is not a difficult task. Use Google Alerts to subscribe to alerts for blogs that may talk about your topic area, or use Technorati to search deep in the archives of blogs that may have covered the topic matter in depth. Additionally, once you find these blogs, check each individual site’s blogroll, if available. This is another way to find even more relevant blogs. You can then target them with a related press release, product announcement, or even a sample item for the blogger to review.
