Obstacle 2: “I Don’t Have Time.”
As we will outline below, you can rev up your Engagement Marketing engine in as little as 15 to 20 minutes a day. The trick is to consistently spend some time every day (or at least a few days a week) creating or posting content and responding to followers. Again, focus on your preferred destination to keep things simple and prevent getting overwhelmed. To overcome the “I don’t have time” challenge, reread Chapter 8 and incorporate one or more of the tips and tricks outlined. You can also consider setting up a schedule, getting help from employees, or outsourcing.
Not all of your content needs to be original. In addition to your own updates, you can share interesting content from others. The industry now calls this “curating content.” The key here is to set up some monitoring tools to follow relevant keywords, blogs, companies, and individuals. There are a few tools listed in Chapter 10, and you can find more resources at engagementmarketing.com. You’ll quickly find great people writing about your focus area who are completely noncompetitive. Share their articles, Facebook posts, blogs, or Google+ posts (with complete attribution) and add some commentary or discussion starters. Your clients view of you as an expert, sharing the best of your industry is part of your value-add. Sharing others’ content has the added benefit of connecting you with the authors, if they happen to see that you have shared or retweeted their content. Who knows, maybe they will follow you back and share some of your content with their audience in the future.
