As mentioned, they require a significant num- ber of participants to maintain the confidentiality of the responses. But their completion timeline can be at least half that of most standard sur- veys and the specifics they provide are more usable and comprehensive. Cost for the first survey cycle may be borne primarily or entirely by the company initiating the survey. An effective third party will establish a community of interest that will transcend the initial survey cycle and lay the ground work for continued information sharing. In many cases, the relevancy of the data being sought and the quality of the process out- come will stimulate cost sharing among the participants, thus lessening the long-term expense for all.
