Chapter 13. How to Analyze Test Runs > Data Analysis: Figuring Out What It All ...

13.5. Data Analysis: Figuring Out What It All Means

If possible, I suggest you drop as much of your data into a custom Excel-based stress-test workbook as possible. Not only does this approach facilitate detailed and aggregate analysis but it serves as a great way to unite in one place much of the disparate data pulled from different tools and different layers of your unique SAP Technology Stack or stacks. Once this is accomplished, it then becomes very important to begin considering how you will best present these data, keeping in mind that different audiences prefer different formats, level of detail, use of charts and graphs, and so on.

13.5.1. Know Your Audience

Well before I execute any test runs, I already have a good understanding of the kind of data points or results that a particular set of stakeholders will value, and the format in which they will most value seeing these data displayed. Technical colleagues will tend to want to see the details “behind the scenes” and will therefore appreciate the Excel workbook itself. IT management and project-driven team leads, on the other hand, will probably want to see rolled-up detailed data reflecting the final outcome of each test run. Senior management and executive teams will be more interested in looking through a relatively few slides regarding high-level technical results or business-specific proof points.
