In addition to the ASUG conference and regular ASUG-sponsored events, a growing number of other SAP conferences is available to SAP professionals, users, and others. Some of these, such as SAP TechEd, are geared toward technologists and developers, whereas others, such as SAPPHIRE, are geared toward executives and other decision makers. There’s also a wealth of product-specific conferences and events hosted throughout the year by the same folks who publish the SAP Professional Journal and SAPinsider—WIS Publications.
If you are seeking a high-level or executive-level perspective on where SAP is heading, consider attending the annual SAPPHIRE conference. One is held every year in the United States, Europe, and most recently Asia. A certain amount of technical sessions are offered, but SAPPHIRE is better known for touting a who’s who of keynotes, customer case studies and success stories, and a great number of business-oriented presentation sessions. For example, SAPPHIRE ‘08 boasted 18 conference tracks ranging from core Financial Services and Discrete/Process Industries (SAP’s bread and butter in many ways) to SAP NetWeaver/ESA, SAP xApps and Business Process Innovation, and others—reflecting 22 SAP solutions and 24 industry verticals.
