Concluding Thoughts

Your initial release plan potentially addresses two important facets of your project: its schedule and its financial aspects. The schedule should indicate the expected delivery date—ideally expressed as a range of dates, any important dependencies on external teams or events, and key milestones in the project. The financial aspects of your plan should address the expected costs and benefits, also ideally expressed as a range. Your release plan will evolve throughout your project as you learn more about what your stakeholders actually need, how you can fulfil those needs, how well your team works together, and how well your overall environment is conducive to allowing you to successfully deliver a solution. Your release plan is an important part of your project vision (Chapter 7). As described in that chapter, some people prefer to call the vision an “Agile Charter.”
