Chapter 3. Automatic Application Updates > Scheduled Update Checking

Scheduled Update Checking

When you select the option to check for updates after the application launches, you have an additional option to perform the background checking on a scheduled basis instead of doing it every time your application launches. The default selection for this setting is to check every time the application launches. If you want to check on a scheduled basis, select the option to check after the application launches (see Figure 3.10), then select the radio button labeled Check every. When you do so, the two combo boxes to the right of that radio button will be enabled, allowing you to specify an interval in terms of hours, days, or weeks. The interval will be started from the point when the application is first installed, and each time users start the application, the date and time will be checked to determine whether the interval has occurred, requiring an update check. When an update check occurs, the system will record the time so that it can restart the interval.
