8.4. The Danske Bank Agile Delivery Process

Based on these needs, the basic approach at Danske Bank was to build on best industry practice to create an agile delivery process that adapted well-known agile development methods to the Danske Bank context. As illustrated in Figure 8.2, the organization defined a set of layers of concern with different scope and focus.

As shown, there are four layers of concern to the agile delivery approach at Danske Bank:

Scrum. The core development ideas of the agile delivery approach in Danske Bank are drawn from the Scrum approach [11]. The limited existing experiences at Danske Bank mostly involved use of Scrum in small development projects, so it made sense to leverage those experiences and use the main terminology from Scrum as the basis on which to build. Hence the Danske Bank agile approach reuses the familiar ideas of backlogs, sprints, Scrums and the new roles of product owners and Scrum masters, and so on. This also allows the opportunity for Danske Bank to use a wide range of existing training materials and external consultants.
