Chapter 5. Objects as Software Components > A New Industrial Revolution

A New Industrial Revolution

In Chapter 1, I argued that we need to set higher goals for objects rather than simply improving the construction of conventional applications. After 50 years of slow, incremental improvements in development tools and techniques, it's time to recognize that the accepted approach to software development is no longer adequate to provide timely business solutions. We need a revolutionary change.

As it happens, we once faced a situation very much like this one in the construction of material goods. Like software construction, this problem also resisted incremental approaches to improvement.
