PowerBuilder 9.0's new feature that allows developers to create client applications for any J2EE-compliant EJB server opens up a whole new spectrum of potential. By abstracting the complexities of the Java programming environment without sacrificing its capabilities, developers can now merge the rapid application development environment and rich client capabilities that PowerBuilder provides with the robust, standardized, and vendor-neutral EJB component model adopted by many third-party application server vendors. Three core objects implemented using the PowerBuilder Native Interface, an internal Java VM Service, and the capability to support proxy objects that delegate to actual Java classes within a client Java VM hosted by PowerBuilder are the foundation of this implementation. As this technology matures, look for the capability to host PowerBuilder custom class user objects within third-party J2EE application servers in a future product release.
