Group discussion

1: Read the following scene. In the scene, Elizabeth, Elliott, and Tracy (all project team members), are sitting around a conference table. There are papers, folders, and day planners on the table.

Elizabeth: Hey, I don't know about you two, but I feel a little uncomfortable about setting up an on-line database for this project. I mean, I know several of us are good working with computers, but I'm not sure if anyone on the team knows enough about databases to create one for an outside source.

Elliott: I agree with you, Elizabeth. I feel the same way.

Tracy: Well, then let's not risk it. Do either of you know any companies here in town that specialize in database construction?

Elizabeth: Actually, I know of a couple. I could contact them and get some sort of quotes for the work.

Now, discuss the following:

Which method of developing project standards did they select?

What are other ways of developing project standards?

2: When the budget for Icon’s SW chip project was established, $30,000 was set aside in case employees needed to work overtime to keep the project on schedule. What project standard was used in this situation?
  1. Procurement plans

  2. Contingency reserves

  3. Alternative strategies

  4. Insurance policies
