Why Projects Get into Trouble

Projects get into trouble for a number of reasons. Lack of planning or poor planning is a major contributor. We have all heard the saying: “We didn’t have time to do it right the first time, but we always have time to do it over again.” Everyone involved in a project has to share the blame for poor or no planning. The pressures put on a project manager to get started often lead to disaster. Other factors that lead to project problems are: speculative technology, incomplete specifications, scope creep, project drifting, cost overruns, lack of skilled resources, date-driven schedules, no-risk assessments, optimism of project team, and projects that are too big and complex.
