An extreme project is a complex, self-correcting venture in search of a desirable result.
—Doug DeCarlo, ProjectWorld, Boston, 2000
Extreme Project Management (xPM) projects are the most speculative and high-risk projects one could expect to undertake. At the start, the goal of an xPM project is only vaguely defined, so to talk about a solution is premature. What is needed is a flexible model that simultaneously discovers the specific goal and the solution to that goal. Stated another way, we are looking for a more definitive statement of a goal for which there is a feasible solution. This matched pair will be found through an iterative approach.
