APPENDIX B B B.5 Third Edition Update The Third Edition, published in 2004, superseded the Project Management Institute's (PMI ® ) A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK ® Guide), published in 2000. Structural Changes One of the most pronounced changes to the Third Edition of the PMBOK ® Guide was the structure. The Third Edition was structured to emphasize the importance of the Process Groups as described in Table B1, which displays a side-by-side comparison of the changes. Chapter 3 was renamed "Project Management Processes for a Project" and was moved from Section I to a new Section II entitled "The Standard for Project Management of a Project." As part of this change, Chapter 3 was extensively revised to clearly indicate that the processes, inputs, and outputs called out in the chapter are the basis of the standard for project management of a single project.
