Although YouTube began as a video sharing site, it has quickly grown into the largest worldwide video sharing community.

According to Wikipedia, community has been traditionally defined as “a group of interacting people living in a common location.” With the advent of the Internet, the concept has expanded because people can now gather virtually in an online community and share common interests.

The key to becoming an opinion leader in a community is to continually look over your shoulder and consider where the rest of the social system is regarding new ideas.

As I mentioned in Chapter 2, Everett Rogers, author of Diffusion of Innovations, noted, “The interpersonal relationships between opinion leaders and their followers hang in a delicate balance. If an opinion leader becomes too innovative, or adopts a new idea too quickly, followers may begin to doubt his or her judgment.”
