Chapter 11. Standard Effects in Action

The covers of this book cannot hope to contain an exhaustive description of every effect and how to apply them—much less their infinite iterations and combinations. Nor would it be useful to do so. Instead, the following chapter gives a brief description of each effect category, and provides step-by-step instructions for using some prime examples from each. Notable exceptions include the rather straightforward Image Control category; the highly specialized Cineon Converter (the only Cineon effect); and the standard Keying effects (the far superior Production Bundle versions are described in detail in Chapter 15). For additional guidance, turn to After Effects'online documentation, and to your own experiments.

As you will see, even the Standard effects cover a vast range. The following chapter can't provide ready-made recipes, but it can encourage you to devise your own innovative applications for effects, and inspire inventive combinations.
