Navigating the Timeline

As you become familiar with your footage, you will want to jump to certain sections of your footage quickly. Be sure you have reviewed the “Working with the Timeline” section of Lesson 3 to make sure you understand how to navigate through your Timeline. In this exercise, you will navigate to the end of your project in order to add the two clips you imported from the Tape_2 folder.

1.	Click on the Timeline to make it active.
2.	Click in the Timeline ruler at the 32;00 mark to move your current-time indicator to your cursor location. This is an effective way to jump to a general time in your project; however, it is usually not precise enough to locate a specific edit point in your project. [View full size image]
3.	Press the Page Up key on your keyboard and your current-time indicator will move to the last edit point at 29;18. Page Up is the keyboard shortcut for Go to the Previous Edit Point.
4.	Press the Page Down key on your keyboard and your current-time indicator will move to the next edit point. Page Down is the keyboard shortcut for Go to the Next Edit Point. Press the Page Down key five more times to move your current-time indicator to the end of the project.
5.	Press the Home key to move the current-time indicator to the first frame of the project.
6.	Press the End key to move the current-time indicator to the last frame of the project. Learning these keyboard shortcuts will vastly improve the efficiency of your editing.
