Note
This section is new material; if you’re reading Adobe After Effects CS5 Classroom in a Book, you’ll find this material relevant on pages 30 and 31, where timecode and duration are discussed in Lesson 1.
You can now work with source timecode from moving-image clips in After Effects CS5.5. Timecode is used to log source media when recorded and edited; the timing in hours, minutes, seconds, and frames is absolute and does not change, making it possible to determine exactly where a clip begins and ends. Many moving-image formats include timecode capability, and After Effects CS5.5 puts this data to use without you needing to do anything to find it.
