13. Using Effects

Although it’s possible that the clips in your sequence require no alteration, chances are you’ll need or want to modify them in some way using one of the many effects found in Premiere CS3. In Premiere Pro CS3, the word effect encompasses any means by which you adjust a clip’s audio or video characteristics, or properties.

An effect is categorized by function: motion, opacity, volume, and filters. By changing a clip’s spatial properties, for example, you can resize the clip for use as a picture-in-picture effect or simulate a camera move over a large image. Altering a clip’s opacity lets you superimpose one clip over another.
