Sharing to iTunes

If you own an iPod, iPhone, or an Apple TV, the only way to get media onto it is through iTunes. iMovie can format your movies properly for those devices and ensure that you’ll be able to watch your movies almost anywhere.

To share a project to iTunes:

1.
Choose iTunes from the Share menu.

2.
Mark one or more checkboxes for each size of movie you want to generate (Figure 16.1).

Figure 16.1. iMovie indicates which sizes will work on which Apple (surprise!) devices.

3.
Click the Publish button. iMovie encodes the movie for the sizes you specified (Figure 16.2). When finished, it adds the movie to iTunes (Figure 16.3).

Figure 16.2. Take a break while iMovie encodes the movie into the formats you chose.

Figure 16.3. The encoded movie appears in the Movies list.

You can then watch the movie in iTunes or synchronize your device and watch it there.

iMovie displays an icon in the Project Library that indicates which sizes have been published, as well as a small banner in the Project Browser with the destination (Figure 16.4). Click the banner to switch to iTunes and view the movie there.
