Hour 23. Creating Web Pages and Multimed... > Composing a Page in a WYSIWYG Editor

Composing a Page in a WYSIWYG Editor

Composing a Web page in a WYSIWYG editor is very much like composing and formatting a document in any word processor. You type your text and then format it by selecting it with your mouse and applying formatting—such as bold, fonts, and so on—from toolbar buttons or menu items. If you look at the toolbars in FrontPage Express (see Figure 23.14) or Composer, you'll probably recognize many of the tools, such as a drop-down list for choosing a font or a big "B" for applying boldface.

Although the Web authoring programs present you with lots of formatting tools, it bears repeating here that precise formatting you apply—such as font selections—may not be supported by all browsers. The formatting that matters most is the application of styles, which you choose from a drop-down list on the toolbar in both Composer or FrontPage Express. It's the style that really tells browsers how to handle a block of text.
