The book is excellent. Your Safari Books on line is lousy.
I paid for the 10 trial and I can't even get to the first video. AFter only an hour being on your site, I am cancelling the subscription.

If you are very new to creating your own web pages, this book is a very informative read. But, if you are already experienced, then other more technical books might be to your liking.
I've read this book three times before I felt comfortable enough to install word press on my own web space. I just wanted to get it right the first time and not gum up my install and to retain much of the pertinent information.
Tris's writing style is conversational.
You get the feeling he is in the room with you talking to you while you both relax on overstuffed comfy living room chairs.
I do know that someday, I will get skilled enough to actually set aside this book and be on my own. When I do get to that point, then Tris Hussey will have accomplished his job. That is what this book will do for you. He takes you from ground level to confident you can install, troubleshoot and develop your own website / blog. If you already feel proficient with computers and the Internet and a little bit about Linux / Windows file permissions you can fathom out what you need to learn from this book.
The title is very apt.
This book is about "Using" WordPress.
It is not a tome about detailed technicalities of coding and other detail that will gloss over your eyes.
He quickly helps you "use" WordPress.
Ever have a teacher who you felt was very ernest in helping you learn something ?
That is what I felt reading Tris' book.
He wants and helps you to learn how to use WordPress;
Not just going thru the motions of writing a book.
I read other books at the same time while reading Tris' book to add some extra substance to topics I wanted to know more about.
I borrowed this book from the local library and renewed it three times.
I just had to have it at the ready for reference so I purchased the book.
And finally... the DVD videos included with the book.
Who does that ?
What a great feature and bonus.
This book is a super VALUE.
It will help you learn all the basics you need to get started.
Thank you Tris for writing this book.

although 400 pages, I found that the practical material doesn't' need 100 pages, as a person like me trying to know how to use every tool in wordpress in detail (except coding) I'm actually dissapointed, because for example when talking about writing posts, the only thing I got from the book is what you can indeed know without reading the book. just look at the post editing page and you will know what to do, but if you want to know detailed things like making affiliate links and customizing specific things you will not find that in the book, instead you will find some history and general talking that take too much of the book which should actually discuses practices, I think if the writer focused on including more of (let me try) and dropped the other general talking that in the end you will not need in real-time working with wordpress it would be better, if you want to understand what I meant try to compare this book with another more detailed yet lesser pages book which is by the way (wordpress 3 complete by April Hodge Silver), you don't have to read the latter book to realize what I talked about, just look at that book index and you will see subjects that I wished I read in (using wordpress), that other book has more info and you will be more powerful in wordpress and yet you will spend less time reading and more time working
