In many ways, recording your podcast can be even easier than picking a topic to podcast about! If you have a relatively new laptop, it probably has an adequate microphone built in, and that can be your first start. If you’d like something easier, there are several free services where you can call a phone number and your podcast will be recorded and turned into an MP3 file for you.
Unlike traditional blogging, the end result of your podcast has a lot to do with the quality of the equipment on which it is recorded. Don’t get worried about needing professional audio gear and instead think about your basic nightly news show on TV. Think of the difference between all the ways correspondents call in their stories. The differences among studio to studio communications, regular phone, cell phone, and satellite are all pretty evident. So, a podcast recorded with your laptop’s built-in microphone wouldn’t sound as good as one recorded with an external headset, but it will sound much better than something recorded over the phone. So while writing is writing and there is no difference in the quality of your posts whether you write them in Word or a text editor or online, podcasts are input dependent. The great thing, however, is that recording an awesome sounding podcast isn’t an expensive undertaking.
