Inserting Headers and Footers

In a printed document, a header is text that appears at the top of each page, and a footer is text that appears at the bottom of each page. You only have to type the header or footer once—Google takes care of making sure that your text appears at the top or bottom of each printed page.

Whether you’re inserting a header or a footer, the process is the same. Open your document and click Insert, Header (or Insert, Footer). For a header, a box opens at the top of the document’s first page, as shown in Figure 2.6; for a footer, the box opens at the bottom of the very last page. As Figure 2.6 shows, the header or footer box is outlined by a dashed gray line.
