The World Wide Web

The World Wide Web, or just the Web, as it’s commonly known, is an application running on top of the Internet. The Web can be thought of as a vast network of documents that are transmitted on request over the Internet through HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol). HTTP is used to transport many kinds of files, but the Web is generally thought of and used as a collection of static and dynamic HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) pages.

Static Web pages consist of fixed content and HTML markup code with which browsers display a structured and formatted document.
