In Summary

In this chapter, we’ve seen that the waterfall method consists of functional phases strung together sequentially. The success of waterfall projects relies on each functional phase maintaining the intent of the previous phase. From a designer’s perspective, this can mean that the product delivered is quite different from the one that was created in the design phase. The designer has little or no opportunity to collaborate and integrate with the engineering team who produce the product.

The Agile Manifesto states that there are major benefits to be realised in working collaboratively and concurrently rather than in a serial fashion. The manifesto is not a complex set of must-do rules, but a collection of preferences that are focused on the creation and delivery of value. We’ve seen that agile favours working software, customer collaboration, and responding to change.
