Chapter 1: Introduction to HTML5 Accessi... > The Challenge of HTML5 Accessibility

The Challenge of HTML5 Accessibility

As you can see, there are a lot of changes afoot! As with any new major change, it may not all be smooth sailing. Dealing with this change can be difficult because the goalposts are actually moving. This is partially because HTML5 is itself still in draft. However, it has reached its first LC (or Last Call) for comments. As such, it is approaching a steady state.

This presents some challenges when writing about HTML5 because its support in browsers and AT is only starting to come on-stream. However, as the browsers implement them, so then the AT technologies often follow. This happens because vendors can then see that certain features are gaining use, and they will therefore make choices about what they support and how this will impact the user experience. Ultimately, the good news is that the toolkit has been dramatically expanded with HTML5, though you may often be faced with the problem of too much choice when it comes to approaching how to mark up your web projects.
