In this chapter, I introduced some different types of disability, or shall I say we looked at diverse ranges of ability. We also looked at the various kinds of technology available to help people engage with computers and the Web. In the next couple of chapters, we are going to look at JavaScript and then a new accessibility markup language called WAI-ARIA, which can be used in conjunction with HTML5 (and earlier versions of HTML) to make accessible, rich Internet applications. We’ll also look at how screen readers work in more detail by examining the off-screen model, and you’ll meet the DOM and Accessibility APIs.
