    Subkeywords

    You can add more flexibility to your index if you set up certain keywords as a multilevel index. Simply put, if you want one keyword to be associated with several others, you add subkeywords to first-level keywords.

    Student Activity: Add Subkeywords to the Index

    1.
    Add a keyword to the Index pod.

    • click in the white area near the top of the Index pod

    • type Discrimination and then press [Enter]

    The word appears in your index list. Notice that the word appears in bold. Bold keywords are keywords that are not currently associated with any topic.

    2.
    Add a subkeyword to the discrimination keyword.

    • select the Discrimination keyword

    • from the top of the Index pod, click the New Index Subkeyword tool

    • type Race and press [Enter]

    • select the Discrimination keyword

    • click the New Index Subkeyword tool

    • type Color and press [Enter]

    • select the Discrimination keyword

    • click the New Index Subkeyword tool

    • type Religion and press [Enter]

    3.
    Associate topics with index keywords.

    • on the Index pod, select Discrimination from the list of keywords

    • from the Topics List pod, drag the Nondiscrimination Policy topic from the list of topics to the Topics for: Discrimination area of the Index pane

    You have just associated the keyword Discrimination with the Nondiscrimination Policy topic. You may need to resize the Topics for area to see the Nondiscrimination Policy in the area.

    • select the subkeyword Color

    • drag the Nondiscrimination Policy topic from the list of topics to the Topics for: Color area of the Index pane
