Dynamic HTML

Dynamic HTML (DHTML) gives you the ability to add animation to your topics. RoboHelp provides Dynamic HTML formatting of topic elements via the DHTML menu. You can add effects to text or graphics that will make things fly onto the screen, fade in, change color, glow and much more.

Student Activity: Format a Heading With a Fade-in DHTML Effect

1.
Open the Mission Statement topic.

2.
Add a Fade-in special effect that will occur when the page loads in a browser.

  • click in the headline: Our Mission

  • choose DHTML > Insert/Edit Dynamic HTML Effects

  • select Page has been loaded from the When area

  • select Fade in from the What area (put a check in the box)

  • click OK

A faint “cross-hatch” covers the entire line—an indication that the headline has a Dynamic HTML Effect assigned.

3.
Save your work and preview the topic.

The headline should “fade in.” If you missed it, you can right-click the Preview window and choose Refresh.

4.
Close the preview.

5.
Edit the DHTML Effect.

  • click OK

6.
Preview the topic.

The headline should fade in again, but slower than before.

7.

8.
Add a mouse rollover effect.

  • right-click the headline again and choose DHTML Effects

  • select During mouse rollover from the When area

  • select Glow from the What area

  • from the Value area, double-click the color chip to the left of the word green and select any color you like

  • click OK

  • change the Strength to Strong

  • click OK

9.
Preview the topic.

The headline should fade in again. You will not see the mouse rollover until you point to the headline.

  • move your mouse over the headline to see the glow effect

10.
Close the preview.

11.
Remove the Dynamic HTML Effects.

  • click anywhere in the headline

  • choose DHTML > Remove Dynamic HTML Effects
