On the shelf next to me sit three volumes of my Sams Teach Yourself Microsoft Expression Web in 24 Hours series: the original, the rewrite, and the update. And here I am, once again on my couch with my trusted laptop on my lap, putting the final touches on the fourth edition. You’d think this would be superfluous; four versions of the same book about the same software, and the last one a rewrite for a mere service pack no less. But no. The fact that four editions were warranted is a testament to the work done by the Expression Web development team to take the application from its meager beginners as a reboot of Microsoft’s venture in the front-end web development market to a state-of-the-art, future-friendly application with more tricks up its sleeve than a seasoned magician at Hollywood’s Magic Castle.
