Working with Template Content

After you create a template or open an existing one, you can replace the content on any of the pages with your own material. The site’s home page—the first page that appears when you type a URL—is called default.htm. When you open the home page, you can select elements, such as headlines, text, or images and insert new content. If an element is shared by multiple pages, such as the site’s name or navigation bar, you need to open the locked content in a .dwt file (typically called master .dwt). When you make changes on a Web site or page, an asterisk (*) appears on the tab next to the name indicating changes have not been saved.
