6.3. Levels

Clearly defined levels of accomplishment provide an explicit measurement of reputation, capturing and sharing an empirical assessment of the individual’s reputation in the social structure. Levels are typically named or numbered. Named levels generally have an explicit rank order (as in Figure 6-2), so in a sense both variations can be viewed as numbered levels.
