11.5. Summary

In this chapter, you have learned about the properties that are shared by all controls. These include font, foreground, and background color. The simple container classes, Composite and Group, were described. These allow you to build complex containment hierarchies. Finally, Shell was described. It is the fundamental class that represents top-level windows, supports menu bars, interacts with the window manager, and provides modality. It is hard to imagine an SWT application that does not contain at least one shell. For this reason, knowledge of class Shell is essential.
