2.3. Common Syntactic Constructs

This section defines some symbols used widely in the grammar.

S (white space) consists of one or more space (#x20) characters, carriage returns, line feeds, or tabs.


By "space (#x20) characters", it means ASCII character 32—the character you type by pressing your keyboard's space bar. ("x20" is the hexadecimal equivalent of 32.)
