When you need to look up the essentials of C# 4.0 language syntax
and usage, or locate key information in the .NET base class
libraries, this concise reference helps you find it quickly.
C#
4.0 in a Nutshell
thoroughly covers C# 4.0 programming as
implemented in Microsoft's Visual Studio 2010, including new CLR
4.0 features such as dynamic typing and the PLINQ/TPL threading
libraries.

Free of clutter and long introductions, this book provides a
complete map of C# 4.0 knowledge in a succinct and unified style:

Opening chapters concentrate purely on C#, starting with the
basics of syntax, types and variables, and finishing with advanced
topics such as unsafe code and preprocessor directives

Later chapters cover the core .NET 4.0 Framework, including
such topics as LINQ, XML, collections, I/O and networking, memory
management, reflection, attributes, security, threading,
application domains, and native interoperability

			C# 4.0 in a Nutshell
ideal for any experienced
programmer, whether you're new to C# or familiar with previous
versions of the language.

As web applications grow, so do the challenges. These applications
need to live up to demanding performance requirements, and be
reliable around the clock every day of the year. And they need to
withstand frequent modifications by many different programmers. If
you're building a mission-critical site, this book will help you
achieve the same rigor in web applications that developers have
traditionally applied to other types of software.

Written by a manager at Yahoo who has substantial experience with
the techniques presented in this book,
Developing Large Web
Applications
provides you with practical steps for building
sites that remain effective as they add features, functions, and
users.

Avoid the usual coding and maintenance headaches when small
websites evolve and add pages, code, and programmers

Learn the virtues of modularity, encapsulation, abstraction,
and loosely coupled components

Get comprehensive coverage of issues involving HTML, CSS, PHP,
JavaScript and Ajax, and database interaction

Learn solid techniques in code management and software
engineering that are often unknown or forgotten by web
developers

This book is in progress, but you can still get started with
this development approach through our Rough Cuts edition, which
lets you read the manuscript
as it's being written
, either
online or via PDF.

For a company that promised to "put a pause on new features," Apple
sure has been busy-there's barely a feature left untouched in Mac
OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard." There's more speed, more polish, more
refinement-but still no manual. Fortunately, David Pogue is back,
with the humor and expertise that have made this the #1 bestselling
Mac book for eight years straight. You get all the answers with
jargon-free introductions to:

      Big-ticket changes. A 64-bit overhaul. Faster
everything. A rewritten Finder. Microsoft Exchange compatibility.
All-new QuickTime Player. If Apple wrote it, this book covers
it.

Snow Leopard Spots. This book demystifies the hundreds
of smaller enhancements, too, in all 50 programs that come with the
Mac: Safari, Mail, iChat, Preview, Time Machine.

Shortcuts. This must be the tippiest, trickiest Mac book
ever written. Undocumented surprises await on every page.

      Power usage. Security, networking, build-your-own
Services, file sharing with Windows, even Mac OS X's Unix
chassis-this one witty, expert guide makes it all crystal
clear.

If you use UNIX, you probably use csh to type commands even
if you've never heard of it. It's the standard shell (command line)
on most UNIX systems. tcsh is an enhanced version that's
freely available and highly recommended. Using csh &
tcsh describes from the beginning how to use these shells
interactively. More important, it shows how to get your work done
faster with less typing. Even if you've used UNIX for years,
techniques described in this book can make you more efficient.
You'll learn how to:

Make your prompt tell you where you are (no more pwd)

Use what you've typed before (history)

Type long command lines with very few keystrokes (command and
filename completion)

Remind yourself of filenames when in the middle of typing a
command

Edit a botched command instead of retyping it

This book does not cover programming or script writing in
csh or tcsh because the tasks are better done with a
different shell, such as sh (the Bourne shell) or a language
like Perl.
